In the late 1980s, the Finnish Government commissioned a Finnish-language encyclopedia. The building was designed by Ilmari Liikki and it was completed in 1992. The building is now home to a number of cultural and educational institutions such as the National Library of Finland, Finnish Institute, Diplomatic Academy, Museum of Art History and Culture and Centre for Research on Intercultural Dialogue. One of the most unusual features of this building is its roof. Its structure consists of three layers: concrete support (which is usually made from perforated steel sheets), thin steel fabric trusses (which are usually made from stainless steel sheets) and an atrium roof (which is made from aluminum sheet).The tower was designed by Mauno Väisänen in a way that it gives protection
