LIFE IS ELSEWHERE is a novel by the Czech writer Milan Kundera. It was originally published in French in 1963 under the title La vie est ailleurs . It won both the Prix Renaudot and the Prix Goncourt.This book tells a story of five people from different aspects of society, who are all connected to an old woman named Elisabeth. The story begins with her death journey and their reflections on her life and death. It then focuses on how each of these characters sees life through different eyes, how they grow in their own ways after meeting Elisabeth, and how they ultimately react to her death.The book has been translated into English as The Unbearable Lightness of Being .
