MILDRED PIERCE was born in California in 1898 and grew up in Hollywood. She was married at age twenty-one to a writer, but she later divorced him and began working as a screenwriter and writer for radio and television. After her marriage ended, she worked as a script supervisor for the movie industry. She wrote the screenplay for the film "The Red Badge of Courage," which won the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1951.She died in Los Angeles
