"It is hard to say what is most impressive about Carol Shields' novel UNLESS. The novel is a witty and charming story that tells the story of an old woman who is nearing the end of her life. It is beautifully written, with a lyrical, poetic quality that is matched by the wisdom of the old woman's thoughts. The story is both gripping and delicate, and has a depth that never leaves you."-Becky Schechtman, Worcester State College
